Organizers of the Festival of the Arts BOCA have announced a FREE event to provide the community the opportunity to enjoy a showing of HBO FILMS’, “Too Big To Fail,” based on the bestselling book by Andrew Ross Sorkin, on Thursday, March 15 from 6 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center located at 201 Plaza Real in Mizner Park.
The free showing precedes Sorkin’s appearance at the Festival of the Arts BOCA on Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m. where he will speak on “How to Fix the Financial System.”
“Too Big To Fail” offers an intimate look at the epochal financial crisis of 2008 and the powerful men and women who decided the fate of the world’s economy in a matter of a few weeks. Centering on Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, the film goes behind closed doors to examine the symbiotic relationship between Wall Street and Washington. William Hurt stars as Paulson; the film also stars (in alphabetical order) Edward Asner, Billy Crudup, Paul Giamatti, Topher Grace, Matthew Modine, Cynthia Nixon, Michael O’Keefe, Bill Pullman, Tony Shalhoub, and James Woods. It co-stars Ayad Akhtar, Kathy Baker, Amy Carlson, Evan Handler, John Heard, Dan Hedaya, Peter Hermann, Chance Kelly, Tom Mason, Ajay Mehta, Laila Robins, Victor Slezak and Joey Slotnick.
Andrew Ross Sorkin is The New York Times’s chief mergers and acquisitions reporter, columnist and editor of DealBook (nytimes.com/dealbook), an online daily financial report he started in 2001. In addition, Sorkin is an assistant editor of business and finance news, helping guide and shape the paper’s coverage. His first book, Too Big to Fail: How Wall Street and Washington Fought to Save the Financial System — and Themselves, became a best-seller and was made into an HBO special feature. Sorkin has appeared on the Today Show, Charlie Rose show, and is a frequent guest host of CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” He won a Gerald Loeb Award, one of the highest honors in business journalism, in 2004 for breaking news; a Society of American Business Editors and Writers Award for breaking news in 2005 and 2006; and in 2007, the World Economic Forum named him a Young Global Leader. In 2008 and 2009, Vanity Fair named him to its “Next Establishment” list and he was also named to the Directorship 100, a list of the most influential people on the nation’s board of directors. He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
The 6th Annual Festival of the Arts BOCA is set for March 8 – 18th, 2012. Individual tickets will range from $20 to $100 per person and packages are available for admission to all events. Student discounts will be available for some events with proper identification.
