The Schmidt Family Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park, a non- profit organization will present its fourth annual Festival of the Arts BOCA March 5-13th. Considered by critics to be “an important and impressive addition to the artistic landscape” - the Festival, held in Boca Raton, Florida, will continue to feature the finest in classical music, jazz, art, film and literature. For its fourth season, the Schmidt Family Centre for the Arts will once again collaborate with IMG Artists, a leader in worldwide cultural arts management to align an impressive list of international artists. The Festival of the Arts BOCA 2010 will salute Russian artists past and present with a cadre of musical talent and a musical program focused on Russia’s leading composers. Returning favorite and established Orchestra in Residence, The Russian National Orchestra, at the baton of renowned Grammy award winning conductor, Patrick Summers and on alternating evenings, musical genius of opera and symphony conductor, Constantine Kitsopoulos, will delight Festival audiences with four magical yet diverse full orchestra evenings: · The RNO with reigning soprano Renée Fleming: One of the most beloved and celebrated musical ambassadors of our time, Grammy award winning soprano Renée Fleming returns for an evening of opera arias after a sold out performance at the Festival of the Arts BOCA 2008. Her sumptuous voice, described by many as the “gold standard of soprano sound”, will mark the opening musical evening and set the stage for a spectacular Festival of the Arts BOCA 2010. · The RNO & Alexander Nevsky: Sergei Eisenstein's 1938 film masterpiece with music by Sergei Prokofiev, will be seen and heard in all its magnificence in a concert performance with the Russian National Orchestra, accompanied by the majestic voices of Pulitzer Prize Nominated chamber choir, Seraphic Fire and Grammy award winner mezzo-Soprano, Kelley O'Connor for a truly unforgettable evening of sight and sound.
· The RNO with the stars of the American Ballet Theater: The principal stars of the American Ballet theater, recognized the world over for their regal style and hypnotic performances, Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim Beloserkovsky, will take the stage to the accompaniment of the National Russian Orchestra for a magical closing night of music and dance under the stars. · The RNO and master of the piano, Conrad Tao: Virtuoso Conrad Tao will capture Festival audiences with an evening ode to Rachmaninoff. This young pianist /composer, who has won numerous national and international accolades, was reviewed by the Wall Street Journal during his 2008 triumphant Festival debut as one who possesses two key characteristics in good measure: remarkable musical memory and brilliant technique. In addition to this year’s classical musical components, the Festival of the Arts also welcomes jazz extraordinaire Eldar Djangirov. This Grammy nominated musical whiz, who at the age of three would sit at the piano and play note for note, is now one of the most formidable jazz musicians of his generation. Eldar who is widely recognized for his prodigious play, will treat Festival audiences to an evening of jazz piano pyrotechnics. 2010 in Literature: This year’s impressive literature program includes: acclaimed historian and Pulitzer Prize winner, Doris Kearns Goodwin; former advisor and speechwriter to President Kennedy and to Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Richard Goodwin; political pundit and editorial writer for The New York Times, David Brooks; notable gourmand and expert of food as culture, Albert Sonnenfeld; award-winning biographer and the authorized biographer of Julia Child, Noël Riley Fitch.
Another important aspect to the 2010 Festival of the Arts BOCA will be the numerous community and educational components that will be incorporated throughout. These will include master classes with authors and performers, open rehearsals, and workshops that will give area students an opportunity to learn from the masters.
In addition, this year’s Festival will also offer a numbers of free to the public events such as an afternoon “Film in the Park Series” with such recognized films as: Anastasia, From Russia with Love, and Doctor Zhivago.
Festival of the Arts BOCA kicks-off on the evening of March 5th, 2010 with the Future Stars Performing Arts Competition, recognized as one of South Florida’s premier youth arts contests. |
